Caramelldansen is a meme built from a short clip of two characters from the visual novel Popotan doing a simple hip-swaying dance with their hands held up like bunny ears. It was paired with a sped-up ‘Speedycake Remix’ of ‘Caramelldansen,’ a 2001 song by the Swedish group Caramell. The looping combination spread around 2006 to 2007 on image boards and anime communities. Its high-pitched vocals gave it the nickname the ‘Uma uma’ dance.
