Forever Alone is a rage-comic face that spread around 2010 on 4chan and Reddit: a lumpy, crudely drawn crying grin representing crushing loneliness. Like other rage faces of the era, it was made in MS Paint and dropped into panel comics as a reusable reaction, its distorted teary smile instantly signaling the punchline to anyone who saw it.

Meaning & usage

It punctuates the punchline of rage comics about rejection, being single, or being left out, always self-deprecating rather than genuinely sad. The exaggerated grin makes even real loneliness read as a joke the poster is in on, and over time ‘forever alone’ became a standalone catchphrase for being single or excluded, used with or without the face. It is a cornerstone of the MS-Paint rage-face era, alongside faces like Trollface and Y U No, and it still carries a strong nostalgic charge from that period. Even now the face and phrase are reached for whenever someone wants to joke about being left out without sounding genuinely down.
