Advice Dog is an image macro featuring a smiling dog’s head centered on a segmented, rainbow color-wheel background, with a caption split above and below the image. It appeared around 2006 and is widely credited as the progenitor of the ‘advice animal’ format. The joke was that the dog offered confident but usually terrible or ridiculous advice. Its simple template proved endlessly adaptable.
