The line is from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, released on December 16, 2016. K-2SO — a reprogrammed Imperial security droid voiced by Alan Tudyk — is retrieving Jyn Erso, and does it with a droid’s complete absence of social calibration: he grabs her, throws her to the ground, and announces the good news.

“Congratulations! You are being rescued. Please do not resist.”

The comedy in the film is that K-2SO is genuinely helping and genuinely terrible at it. He has correctly identified the objective and has no model whatsoever for how a rescue should feel to the person being rescued.

What it means / how it’s used

The line captions unwanted help — assistance that is either not wanted, not helpful, or comes with obvious conditions attached.

Its uses:

• Institutional or corporate “support” that mainly benefits the provider.
• Well-meaning intervention that makes a situation worse.
• Help offered with strings the recipient did not agree to.

Alan Tudyk’s delivery deserves some of the credit. He performed K-2SO through motion capture on set rather than recording the lines separately, which gave the droid’s timing a physical, reactive quality that fully synthetic performances rarely achieve — and made a character built from flat declarative sentences unexpectedly quotable.
