Origin

The exploitable is based on the 2003 Ed, Edd n Eddy episode ‘A Twist of Ed,’ part of the long-running Cartoon Network series about three suburban boys. In the frame, the bookish character Edd, nicknamed Double D, holds an open book toward the camera. Editors relabel the book’s cover as ‘Facts,’ turning a stray cartoon moment into a two-panel setup and payoff that anyone can fill in.

Meaning & usage

It spread through Ed, Edd n Eddy fan pages and Reddit around 2017. The first panel shows the ‘Facts’ book, and the second reveals its contents, letting posters present their own opinion or a blunt truth as if it were indisputable, printed fact. The tone is cheeky and assertive, often used to end an argument or to state a hot take with mock authority, as though the matter were settled simply because it is written in the book. Its clean two-panel structure makes it easy to remix for almost any claim.
