Skeletor Facts

Origin

The format was created by the Facebook page Sinister Skeletor in early July 2021. Its first post in the style went up on July 7, 2021, taking over 120 reactions and 142 shares — small numbers that gave no indication of what was coming.

The setup is fixed. Skeletor, the skull-faced villain from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, appears in a still from the 1983 cartoon, delivers a “fact” directly to the reader, and signs off with a line like “Until we meet again.”

The format is a deliberate inversion of an older meme. He-Man Advice used the same cartoon to deliver earnest encouragement in a public-service-announcement style — a parody of the moral lessons the show actually ended each episode with. Skeletor Facts keeps the structure and the sign-off, and replaces the encouragement with something bleak, rude, or quietly devastating.

What it means / how it’s used

The joke is structural cruelty. Skeletor is not shouting or gloating; he is calmly informing you of something true and unwelcome, and then leaving before you can respond.

The “facts” fall into recognisable types:

• Statistical realities about ageing, money, or time.
• Uncomfortable social observations.
• Deadpan absurdities delivered with the same gravity.
• Genuinely useful information, played straight, which lands as a subversion.

The sign-off is essential. “Until we meet again” turns a single remark into a recurring visitation — the implication being that Skeletor will be back with another one, whether you want it or not.

How it spread

The format left Facebook within days. A July 10, 2021 post was reposted to Reddit on July 16, 2021, taking over 40,600 upvotes in three months, and by July 19, 2021 another Reddit version had taken 15,700 upvotes in a month.

Through the rest of summer 2021 the format proliferated, with variants adopting themed sign-offs — fitness tips, financial advice, historical facts — each keeping the same cadence.

Its appeal is partly nostalgic. He-Man aired in 1983 and its animation is stiff, brightly coloured, and extremely earnest, which makes it an ideal delivery vehicle for material the original show would never have touched.

Skeletor Facts belongs to a durable tradition of villain-as-narrator formats, where an antagonist is a more honest guide than any hero would be. The joke works because Skeletor has no reason to be kind, and therefore no reason to lie.

It also demonstrates how completely a 1980s cartoon has been absorbed into internet vocabulary. He-Man has produced multiple independent meme formats decades after broadcast, sustained entirely by people who mostly encountered it as reaction images rather than as television.
