Origin

Dramatic Chipmunk is a roughly five-second clip that spread around 2007, showing a small rodent snapping its head toward the camera as the footage quickly zooms in, punctuated by an ominous orchestral sting. The animal is actually a prairie dog, and the clip reportedly originated from a Japanese television program. Despite the ‘chipmunk’ name, the mislabel stuck. Its perfect comic timing made it an instant reaction staple.
