‘Get a load of this guy’ is decades-old American slang meaning, roughly, ‘look at this ridiculous person’; it appears in an Urban Dictionary entry dated May 3, 2007, but the expression itself is far older. Its life as a meme is tied to a specific image: a screen capture from the 1992 comedy Wayne’s World, in which Wayne Campbell (Mike Myers) looks into the camera and jerks his thumb toward his friend Garth, with an on-screen subtitle reading ‘Get-A-Load of This Guy Cam.’ The earliest archived instance of the screenshot circulating online is a 4chan post from August 17, 2010, after which it settled in as a reusable reaction image.
