The source photograph is from Microsoft’s E3 press conference on June 9, 2019, where Keanu Reeves appeared on stage to announce his role in Cyberpunk 2077. Standing at the front of the stage in a long coat, hands loosely at his sides, he struck a pose the internet found immediately funny — an unremarkable stance that read, in a still image, as somehow enormously confident.

A Twitter user posted the unedited photograph that day, noting that he had simply stood like that and the room had gone up.

Several hours later, another user posted an edited version in which Reeves’ legs had been compressed to a fraction of their length, leaving the same coat, the same pose, and a man roughly three feet tall.
